Student achievement, community generosity, and Bulldog pride were highlights of the Woodridge Board of Education meeting on October 20. The evening’s focal point was the recognition of six Woodridge Elementary School students who bring our Portrait of a Bulldog to life through creativity, kindness, perseverance, and leadership.

Nominated by their music, physical education, and art teachers, these students demonstrate how everyday choices can make a positive difference in their classrooms and school community.

Samir Abdus Samad — Second Grade
Nominated by Mrs. Casey, Samir was recognized for his persistence, creativity, and growing musical skills. Using letter names and color-coded sheet music, he embraces new songs and challenges. His progress has inspired him to create melodies of his own, demonstrating resiliency and self-expression.

Nova Auston — Second Grade
Nominated by Ms. Wells, Nova was celebrated for her growth, communication, and enthusiasm in music and throughout the school. She notices details, eagerly shares ideas, and communicates her needs and interests. Whether dancing with classmates or reading and playing rhythms, Nova brings energy and determination to her learning.

Remi Leissler — Third Grade
Nominated by Mr. Shovestull, Remi consistently demonstrates what it means to be ready, respectful, and responsible in physical education. She helps classmates, approaches activities with a positive attitude, and models honesty, fairness, and strong sportsmanship. Her kindness helps make class welcoming and enjoyable for others.

Sasha Roy — First Grade
Nominated by Mr. Ciocca, Sasha leads by example through positive communication, thoughtful problem-solving, and perseverance in physical education. She works well with classmates, respects differences, and adapts when activities present a challenge. Her willingness to keep trying makes her a positive role model for her peers.

Olive Mason — Third Grade
Nominated by Mrs. Gindraw, Olive combines artistic talent with creativity, thoughtfulness, and a willingness to explore new materials. She turns unexpected challenges into creative opportunities, treats fellow artists with respect, and regularly volunteers to help care for the art room beyond her own responsibilities.

Asa Preneta — Third Grade
Nominated by Mrs. Smith, Asa brings creativity and logic to her artwork, taking time to consider the bigger picture and work through artistic challenges. She expresses ideas clearly, listens to feedback, and encourages her classmates. Her compassion, collaboration, and persistence make her an outstanding example of the Woodridge Way.

Congratulations to Samir, Nova, Remi, Sasha, Olive, and Asa! Thank you to their families and teachers for supporting their growth and helping them shine.

A special thank-you to WES teachers Mrs. Casey and Mrs. Gindraw for joining Mrs. Harrington at the meeting to present these recognitions and celebrate our students. We appreciate their dedication to helping our young Bulldogs learn, grow, and shine!

Community Support for the Woodridge Food Pantry

The district also recognized Boy Scout Troop 155 for donating $290 to the Woodridge Food Pantry. We appreciate the troop’s generosity and commitment to supporting Woodridge families. Their contribution is a meaningful example of service to our community.

District Report Card Presentation

Mr. Joel Morgan presented information about the district report card, providing the Board and community with an opportunity to learn more about Woodridge’s results. Thank you to Mr. Morgan for sharing this information.

Looking Ahead to the Rumble on the River

The meeting also included discussion of the upcoming Rumble on the River football rivalry game against Cuyahoga Falls on Friday, October 23.

A special thank-you goes to Woodridge High School teachers Jeremy Maxa, Tim Gammell, and Hannah Cicalese  for helping bring the rivalry’s oar trophy to life. The trophy represents the communities’ shared connection to the Cuyahoga River and adds a special tradition to the matchup.

We also thank Scott Kline and the students in his content creation class for producing digital content for Friday’s game. Their creativity and work will help make the evening memorable for students, families, and fans from both communities.
